And more esoteric ones, like Intel's Indeo, really don't exist any more for QuickTime as we know it. You'll still need Sony's software to use their XDCAM codec, for example. However this doesn't mean you won't need to get third party codecs to access other content. Then came across an HP Dv9000, every time I tried to render video something else would pop up and it took 8 hours or more to render 15 minutes of video. My desktop wasn't mmx3 capable so I couldn't install the software. I bought an adapter for another laptop but it wouldn't read the camera thru the adapter. The first computer I tried was a Gateway 450sx4, it wouldn't render the video not enough memory cpu not big enough. Since I'm familiar with Adobe software for business I used Premier Pro versions 1.5, 3, and 4. I have a Canon Optura Xi that takes beautiful video on mini DV cassette. Codecs For Quicktime Windows 7 Laptop ForI bought a Windows 7 laptop for work, it's a good enough machine to edit video with i5 2.66, 6 gigs memory. I did have to install codec packs with all the XP machines and they worked fine. Had a friend who is a repair tech look for a driver but he couldn't find what it needed. I bought a quadcore desktop and was going to set that up for editing but since it originally came with vista and I put XP in it, there were problems with the video. I had a desktop that had a P4 in it, that worked great but had to take it back to the shop to run XP programs. Hp envy 7640 driver for mac 10116I copied the raw file to the old P4 (XP) and the sound is there, just doesn't work on the Windows 7 computer. No matter what codec pack I install it will not add the audio to the track. I recorded to the flash card a few times as I can plug that into the card reader but the video quality isn't nearly as good and this is where the codec problems start. I have another XP computer that I could use for work and bring the old P4 back home but again, Id prefer to have something portable due to lack of room to keep it set up all the time. Maybe less frustrating would be a better way of putting it. I would prefer to have something portable but before I spend the money is a Mac going to be any "easier" ( for lack of a better word) than a PC. Core2duo 2.4 and 4 gigs memory, but they live 6 hours away and no editing software for a Mac.
